New Zealand pop musician BENEE (Stella Rose Bennett) shot to fame in 2020 when her single ‘Supalonely’ saw huge international success after it went viral on TikTok. She was 20. From lockdown in New Zealand, she then performed virtually on American talk shows with Jimmy Fallon, Ellen DeGeneres and Seth Meyers, and released her debut album ‘Hey u x’ in November 2020. The album included tracks featuring Lily Allen, Grimes, Flo Milli, Mallrat and Bakar, among others. Her lyrics are laced with personal stories of anxiety and dread, though her sound is fun, lively and danceable. Based in Auckland, BENEE often travels to Los Angeles to write and record with US producers, and has also launched her own female-led New Zealand record label, Olive.
