About Liza

Liza Lou is best known for her large scale sculptures hand crafted from millions of glass beads, exploring the topics of labour, women's issues and social change. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum in New York and she has been recognised with the MacArthur Fellowship and Anonymous Was A Woman Award. In 2005, Liza moved to Durban, South Africa to establish a studio working alongside local Zulu beadworkers. We spoke with Liza about creativity, travel and the Zulu word for cell phone.
