For French art director David Robert and UK–born illustrator Andrew Joyce, Tokyo has long been a source of creative inspiration. After connecting through the international creative community in their new adopted city, they joined forces, alongside Tatsushi Eto, to create The Tōkyōiter. Inspired by the seminal covers of The New Yorker, the pair have been creating their own colorful renditions in an ode to the Japanese capital since 2015. From monochromatic sketches of the city’s neon lights to an animation of Japan’s legendary automated toilets, each distinctive work features an artist’s unique take on Tokyo.
