Malaka Gharib

Egyptian-Filipino journalist, cartoonist and graphic novelist Malaka Gharib grew up between worlds. Malaka has turned her experiences as a first-generation American into two graphic memoirs, one of which won the 2020 Arab American Book Award, and created comics for The Los Angeles Times, The New Yorker and The New York Times. When she’s not tackling social issues through colorful illustrations, Malaka is the digital editor of an NPR podcast. After growing up in LA, she now finds herself based in Nashville, where she has been discovering the diverse, creative underbelly of the music capital.
