Growing up in the small town of La Garriga outside Barcelona, where the local community encouraged artistic expression, Rafael Bonachela’s choreography career began by organising his friends into dance shows for the grown-ups. Flash forward and he is one of the best-known choreographers in the world, having spent years with the iconic Rambert Dance Company in Britain before taking up his role as Artistic Director of the Sydney Dance Company – a journey that has seen him work with music legends such as Tina Turner and Kylie Minogue, among many others.
