Tamil singer, songwriter and rapper Ranjani Ramadoss — better known as RANJ — is rapidly rising the charts of India’s independent music scene. A childhood spent listening to her parents' Carnatic records, paired with formative years watching the rise of gully rap, have given RANJ her silky lyricism matched with a high-octane stage presence. Born in Tiruchirappalli, RANJ grew up in Chennai, then followed her music career to Bengaluru in South India. Yet, it’s still in Chennai, the state capital of Tamil Nadu, that RANJ travels to find both the warmth of home and the inspiration to pen lyrics.
