About Yassmin ABDEL-MAGIED
Born in Khartoum, Sudan and raised in Brisbane, Australia, Yassmin Abdel-Magied set up social change not-for-profit Youth Without Borders at the young age of 16. By 24, she had released her first book, Yassmin’s Story, about her time as an engineer — and the only woman — working on a remote oil rig. However, Yassmin’s journey for a creative career in Australia wasn’t without its challenges. Looking for a fresh start and a supportive community, Yassmin moved to London, where she has since published another three books, including her first foray into fiction, You Must Be Layla. We spoke to Yassmin about how travel informs her writing, finding her creative community in London and the culinary pull of Brick Lane.
