Most of artist Lady Skollie’s traveling is between Johannesburg, where she’s based, and Cape Town, where she was raised.

"In the center of Fordsburg is the Oriental Plaza. The facade is still so 70s. You can go and have fitted suits made, have your eyebrows threaded, get samoosas, or buy leather jackets that are to the floor. Being someone who has some roots in Cape Malay culture, it’s a very cool place to go."

"Bridge Books in the CBD is really cool. They do a lot of South African literature, they do readings, and there’s a coffee shop there. You can find a lot of rare South African books and self-published stuff."

"Emmarentia Dam is where my husband and I take walks. Sometimes we pack a little camembert, or some dried fruits and crackers and recline somewhere in the massive park. It’s part of the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens."

"I used to have my after parties at the Troyeville Hotel. Artists have always been going there; it’s in a very historic area where there was a lot of resistance. The restaurant is Portuguese and before the meal they bring you warm floury buns and squid heads. You have a cold beer. It’s under new ownership and now they have a whole rooftop where the younger crowd goes."

"Everard Read is my representative gallery. It’s the oldest commercial gallery on the continent so it’s always interesting to see their angle on art and the artists they represent. They also own Circa Gallery across the road. Everard Read is on a stretch called Keyes Art Mile where you’ll find BHkz gallery, experimental art spaces popping up, and Tomorrow Gallery which is a VR art space."
