For Jacob Maguire, guitarist in experimental Manchester dance music quartet Porij, the northern England city is in the band's DNA.

"Yes was like the cool place to be when we were there. It would just have music on all the time. And it's got like great bands, like we saw a band called Black Midi once, like really early on, in the basement and we've seen Kaytranada do a DJ set there. It has an influx of great bands coming in."

"The Northern Quarter is pretty great. It's got a bunch of vintage stores, coffee shops. It's got this place called Afflecks, which is like this huge building with very quirky clothes and there's just always something to do."

"There's definitely a rave scene in Manchester and The White Hotel has crazy techno nights — but then also great indie gigs. We went to a Kazakhstani techno night at The White Hotel and it's just like a really weird place on the outskirts."

"An hour outside of Manchester, it's just beautiful. You get all of the views of Yorkshire and that part of the country as well. I feel like the UK is quite underestimated — especially when you're kind of stuck in cities. And you only have to drive a little bit and you can be at one with nature."
